Session Description: Healthcare technology is not always patient-facing nor directly applicable to care contexts. Some of the most significant innovations involve the use of technology in a more behind-the-scenes capacity, specifically in the training and development of clinical professionals. This session will highlight how ASGE collaborated with a medical device company in a non-accredited activity, by initially designing and implementing micro-learning, case-based questions. Any individual from those in-GI-Fellowship training or a practicing gastroenterologist in the world, could participate. Those who gained the highest points and were attending in person at our annual conference, Digestive Disease Week (DDW), could participate in an escape room experience. We will present how ASGE and Industry can effectively collaborate, use of gamification technology and design techniques considered, creation of and use of simulated models, learning lessons experienced as we evolved from concept to reality, while maintaining our goal of creating a bit of education while having participants immerse themselves into some fun throughout the educational journey.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will be able to identify educational techniques that encourage target audiences to be more active in their learning versus passive acquisition of information.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to determine opportunities and characteristics of a non-accredited yet educational collaborations between medical education organizations and industry.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss how an escape room activity can create opportunities for participants who do not know one another, develop effective teamwork, communicate and support each other in meeting a collective goal.
