Book Club Discussion: Personal Reflections on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (Level 1)

Session Description: Join our engaging book club session as we delve into the vital topic of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion as well as pilot a new blended learning format. We'll be discussing Subtle Acts of Exclusion, Second Edition: How to Understand, Identify, and Stop Microaggressions, a thought-provoking book that explores the concept of implicit bias. We strongly encourage participants to read it in advance.
Implicit bias, those unconscious mental shortcuts formed by our past experiences, affects how we interact with one another, make decisions, and even influences healthcare disparities. Microaggressions, those subtle everyday slights, further compound these challenges.
In this session, we'll explore implicit bias and microaggressions, delving into their impact on our personal and professional lives. “These subtle, confusing insidious things that people say and do that end up excluding people with marginalized identities.” We will use discussion questions and situations contained within the different chapters to encourage personal reflections to be shared.
It starts with us. If you are not aware of your actions and words, then you can’t change. Each one of us is a change agent.
