Question Writing Workshop - Enhancing Skills By Rewriting Challenging Questions on Diversity, Disparities, and Health Inequities (Level 3)

Session Description: This workshop is coming back after intense audience engagement in 2023. New and prior attendees will appreciate the added focus on diversity and inclusion. The session will include a quick review by sharing recommendations for inclusive language to reduce unintentional bias. Presenters will engage the audience to list best practices in writing knowledge and application-based assessment questions to address race, ethnicity, sex and gender, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, and terms for persons with diseases, disabilities, and disorders. The audience will then actively participate in reviewing example test questions and select what could be improved with the example. A special focus on how to develop questions that meet the collective needs of the learners, CE administrator, and funder to assess outcomes will be addressed. A summary of take-home points and best practices will close the session.

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze continuing education questions to determine if they need to be revised.
  • Determine how a question could be improved within the question stem, distractors or presentation content.
  • Revise questions to optimize performance on learners’ assessments and meet grant expectations.
