Session Description: The forces changing medicine have also directly and indirectly affected continuing education and development in the health professions globally.
When we consider these forces, we must look at the rise of mega systems, the dependence on EHRs, Dr. Google, point of care resources, data availability (and privacy), team-based care, workplace disparities, social determinants of health, patient care, competency based assessment, social media, on-line learning and globalization. These forces, plus the requirements on health care professionals for accreditation, certification, privileges and licensure all impact the role and reach of health education.
The luminaries of continuing medical education and professional development studied learning and change when those forces for change were seedlings, or in some cases unheard of concepts. Many forces have become forests. We have observed the growth around us and must navigate a clear path through it.
Participants in this interactive session will participate in a facilitated brainstorming session to identify the forces affecting medical education followed by a prioritization exercise to craft calls to action for this community.
Learning Objectives:
Engage in an interactive discussion that results in identification of forces affecting learning and change for today’s health care professionals.
Share educational experiences that have been implemented to drive learning and change which could be spread to a wider audience.
Prioritize potential calls to action for institutions and organizations to mobilize to address the forces and redesign their CME/CPD programs.
