Session Description:After the horrific murder of George Floyd and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, Coverys and Med-IQ made a commitment to change for the better, stand up taller against inequality, and support diversity, equity, and inclusion. In this session, we plan to share the steps we took and the success we encountered, as we embark on a journey to further our understanding and promote the behavior we expect to see in others. We will highlight the practices we implemented within our organization and in the education and services we deliver, and the positive impact that resulted from these efforts. This includes the creation of a DE&I council to lead a “listen phase” consisting of assessments and town halls and a “learn phase” featuring a variety of community conversations. We will discuss how we established a Workforce Resource Group, a Black, Indigenous, & People of Color (BIPOC) Resource Group, and a Women’s Resource Group that provides a platform to hear directly from our people to better assess our organizational needs and culture. This includes specific feedback provided to HR on policies and procedures that have improved what we offer our employees. Finally, we will share the impact our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Action (IDEA) Committee had to advance Med-IQ’s mission of “Better Healthcare for All.” The Committee works to forge strategic partnerships with organizations and individuals with expertise in addressing health inequities and biases. This committee has helped us become a trusted partner among hospital and health system clients for mindfully designed products and services. At the conclusion of our session, participants will take with them the knowledge to create an inexpensive blueprint to help implement a culture of DE&I in their organization too.
Learning Objectives:
Highlight tactics for setting up a DE&I culture that can be immediately implemented.
Identify potential costs and roadblocks, plus ways to overcome.
Share the intended outcomes and positive results that may occur as a result of setting up a culture of DE&I.
