Identifying Microaggressions, Discussing Responses and Changing Behavior (Level 3)

Session Description: Microaggressions are the everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate derogatory or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership. In this interactive session, participants will learn how to identify and respond to microaggressions, and practice strategies on how to make effective changes in behavior.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the term microaggression and identify microaggressions by developing observing skills.
  • Discuss appropriate language to use when teaching in CPD courses.
  • Explore how to create a brave space for learners to report and discuss microaggressions.
