Considerations for Global Education (Level 3)

Session Description: Medical education has the ability to reach an international audience, but the international environment is different, and considerations should be made. Variables that need to be considered include the systems of education, cultural differences, specialization of physician practice, and the prevalence of disease differing from country to country. This session will assess the differences in international learners and the context in which they seek continuing professional development. Education modalities will be discussed focusing on inperson versus virtual options and how cultural and economic differences should be evaluated. The substantial equivalency framework which facilitates recognition between continuing education accreditors and the ACCME will be reviewed and the opportunities that it offers to expanding continuing educational activities. Substantive equivalency is intended to support the mobility of learners, allowing them to access accredited learning activities that are recognized by various CPD accreditation systems. And finally, the importance of partnerships with both multi-national and country-specific medical societies and industry partners will be discussed in the context of experience and lessons-learned. This panel of presenters will be available to answer questions.

  • Discuss how to engage in partnerships with international organizations and industry to support global education initiatives.
